More and more of us are interested in sustainability and aware of all the greenhouse emissions air conditioning cause, here are five (some unusual) ideas to keep your cool in the heatwave…
1. Keep hydrated
Always drink plenty of liquid in the hot summer heat. Water is by far superior to juice or soda to prevent dehydration. Also make sure you avoid caffeine, which is a diuretic, as it will cause you to lose, rather than retain fluids. So sip water throughout the day to stay properly hydrated.
2. Wear light clothing
Tropical countries experience hot climate all year round, with the predicted typical raining seasons. They wear lightweight cotton, loose and linen clothing to keep cool. Also REMEMBER light colours reflect the sun’s radiation so avoid dark colour clothing!
3. Eat spicy food
Have you wondered why cultures in the hottest countries on earth eat hot and spicy food? Very simple fact – spicy food make you sweat, which helps you to cool down faster! Most people reach out for ice cream or iced cold drink to cool down on a hot summer day, the effect isn’t lasting. Eating spicy food however increases blood circulation and cause sweating, which cools the body down!
4. Keep wet wipes in the fridge
Wet wipes are a real godsend for keeping fresh and clean, especially in the hot climate. For a quick refresher all summer long, keep a pack of wet wipes in the fridge. A cold wipe to freshen up is the best feeling in this heat! The cool temperature will also close pores, keeping your skin clear and blemish free!
5. Stay cool with ice water bottle
You probably find it difficult to sleep at night with the rising temperature. Try to fill a standard hot water bottle with ice water and use it to cool your bed or yourself. Put aside latex and down pillows until the autumn, and get a cooling pad and pop into your pillows to cool it down if needed. Remember – cooling your head cools your entire body!
