We talk about nonwovens all the times here at We Love Wipes, but did you know that they are not only used for wipes? They can be used for a whole multitude of things including gardening supplies. We spoke to a gardening fanatic Katja Dolan and she told us all about a few items she uses in the garden.
Lets find out a bit about Katja’s garden...
Katja started gardening about 8 years ago, starting with the basic hanging baskets and moving onto vegetables and trees! (We wish we could garden so well…) When the kids were born, she started to grow flowers and berries in her garden, and encourage them to have fun and grow their own as they grow older.
Gardening season starts in March for Katja, where she cleans the garden by trimming the bushes, washing the deck and planting the seeds. She even pre-grows her flowers and strawberries!
We asked Katja what equipment she uses in the garden. “I mainly use re-usable pots made out of clay or old plastic pots. For the borders (of her garden) I have used black plastic and this year I will be using weed control nonwoven fabric as it is apparently a very good way to prevent the roots.”she said.
Now on to the beauty side of gardening...
Gardening can be very messy, all that mud, sweat and bugs, and we know we wouldn’t want to wear our best outfits. Katja suggests wearing some old cleaning clothes so that if they get ruined it doesn't really matter.
We also asked how she keeps her hands looking good while gardening, because after spending 40 minutes waiting for our nails to dry we most certainly don’t want to chip them! Her best tip is to wear gloves, although sometimes her hands still get messy. Looks like we should only paint our nails after we do the gardening.
What about the mess in my house?
There’s no doubt that you will probably end up trailing half the mud from your garden into your home, so we were wondering how do she deals with the mess - inside and outside the home. “I use a hose and pressure washer outside, with a cloth and cleaning products inside”.
Are you thinking about getting into gardening this summer? Katja’s tips are going to be a real savior. Also don’t forget to pick up some wipes, a pair of durable gloves and a frost sheet to go over your flowers when the harsh winter weather comes.
