After all the Christmas festivities it can often be difficult to find the best way to celebrate the start of 2017. To save you scratching your head, we’ve come up with some ideas that will help you get the next twelve months off to the best possible start!
Set your resolutions
You might already have an idea of what you want to achieve in 2017, but if you don’t then New year’s Day is a perfect time to think about it. Create a list and put it up somewhere visible in your house, like on the bathroom mirror or on the refrigerator. This visual reminder can help greatly if you’re struggling to stick with them.
Decided what you want to do? Then get cracking! If you’ve said that you’re going to go out for a run then pull on your trainers and do it. After all, there’s no time like the present.
Go for a winter walk
For a lot of people, going for a walk can be last thing on their list of fun activities, but it’s a great way to clear out the cobwebs and start to feel more human after a busy festive period. Head to the local park with your friends and family, or try something more strenuous like a hike in the countryside.
See friends or family
If you have a big family you might not have had the chance to see everyone you planned over Christmas. Instead why not go and spend New Year's Day with some of them? You could always bring some headache tablets as a peace offering, just in case one or two of them enjoyed themselves a little bit too much the evening before!
Have a snowman competition
By New Year's Day the kids may have started to get bored of all their new toys. If you're lucky enough to live in an area with snow then why not head out into the back yard and have a snowman competition. Pick a few judges while the rest of you embark on building the best snowman you can! Not enough snow for snowmen? A snowball fight is always good fun (just remember to aim away from people’s faces).
Read a book
Wind down after a hectic couple of weeks, turn off all your electronics and pick up a book. You can lie on the sofa, or stay in bed all day and finally get round to reading that novel you bought at the start of 2016! Not a big reader? Then how about...
Watch a Christmas movie
This is your last chance to catch up on your favourite Christmas films without appearing a little bit sad. Have a chilled out day and watch your festive favourites. If you’d rather not sit around watching films, then you can always have them on in the background whilst you do other activities like taking down the Christmas tree or tidying up!
